Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect the following for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.
    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

    Mechanical Electrical
    • Headlamp switch
    • Circuitry
    • Vehicle security module
    • Light sensor
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
    NOTE: Make sure the headlamp switch is in the OFF position.
    NOTE: Make sure the multifunction switch is in the LOW BEAM position.
  4. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • check that the program card is correctly installed.
    • check the connections to the vehicle.
    • check the ignition switch position.
  5. If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to diagnostic tool's operating manual.
  6. Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
    • UBP circuit fault; all electronic control units no response/not equipped, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
    • No response/not equipped for the vehicle security module, refer to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES .
    • System passed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and carry out self-test diagnostics for the vehicle security module.
  7. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the VEHICLE SECURITY MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX  to continue diagnosis.
  8. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to SYMPTOM CHART  to continue diagnosis.

B1342 ECU Is Defective Vehicle Security Module CLEAR the DTCs. RETRIEVE the DTCs. If DTC B1342 is retrieved, INSTALL a new vehicle security module. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES .
B1695 Autolamp On Circuit Failure Vehicle Security Module GO to PINPOINT TEST G .
B1792 Autolamp Sensor Input Circuit Short to Battery or Open Vehicle Security Module GO to PINPOINT TEST G .
B1793 Autolamp Sensor Input Circuit Short to Ground Vehicle Security Module GO to PINPOINT TEST G .
B2661 Parklamp Relay Output Short to Battery Vehicle Security Module GO to PINPOINT TEST G .
B2662 Parklamp Relay Output Open Circuit Vehicle Security Module GO to PINPOINT TEST G .
B2663 Headlamp Relay Output Short to Battery Vehicle Security Module GO to PINPOINT TEST G .
B2664 Headlamp Relay Output Open Circuit or Short to Battery Vehicle Security Module GO to PINPOINT TEST G .
All other DTCs - Vehicle Security Module REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES .
