Booster Pedal Force Switch Circuit Failure and Brake Switch Circuit Failure

The brake pedal position (BPP) switch (also known as the stoplamp switch) is hard wired to the PCM supplying battery voltage when the brake pedal is applied. The PCM communicates with the ABS module via the high speed controller area network (HS-CAN) bus for the brake pedal switch position. If there is a failure in the brake pedal switch or the HS-CAN bus DTC C1446 will be set.

The brake fluid level switch is hard wired to the instrument cluster. The cluster sends the brake fluid level switch status to the ABS module over the HS-CAN bus. A low fluid level condition in the master cylinder, a failure of the HS-CAN bus or a failure of the brake fluid level switch will cause DTC C1446 to set.

The brake pressure switch (also known as the speed control deactivator switch) is hardwired to the PCM and is attached to the master cylinder. With the ignition switch in the RUN position, the pressure switch provides a voltage signal to the PCM. When the brake pedal is pressed and the pressure in the master cylinder reaches a predetermined level, the switch opens and the voltage signal is interrupted. The PCM shares this switch information with the ABS module over the HS-CAN bus. If there is a failure of the brake pressure switch or the circuits between the switch and the PCM, DTC C1287 will set.
