Pinpoint Test A:: Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Ford Pickup, 2006 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2006 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2006 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Use the flex probe kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multimeter probes.
- A1 VERIFY THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE SCAN TOOL AND THE DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC) CONNECTOR
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect the scan tool, if connected.
- Reconnect the scan tool to the DLC.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Retrieve and Document Continuous DTCs.
- Are any DTCs present?
Yes : REFER to the ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX .
No : Go to A2.
- A2 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE ABS MODULE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: ABS Module C135.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between ABS module C135-2, circuit 534 (YE/LG), harness side and ground; between ABS module C135-32, circuit 533 (TN/RD), harness side and ground; and between ABS module C135-31, circuit 532 (OG/YE), harness side and ground.
- Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
Yes : Go to A3.
No : VERIFY battery junction box (BJB) fuse 11 (10A), fuse 22 (60A) and fuse 23 (60A) are OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. REPEAT the self-test.
- A3 CHECK THE ABS MODULE GROUND CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between ABS module D135-16, circuit 530 (LG/YE), harness side and ground; and between ABS module C135-45, circuit 530 (LG/YE), harness side and ground.
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes : REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK to continue diagnosis of the communication network.
No : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. REPEAT the self-test.
