Removal and Installation

- Remove the bolt and detach the intermediate shaft from the steering column.
- To install, tighten to:
- Nm (18 lb-ft) (vehicles built through 4/2006).
- Nm (21 lb-ft) (vehicles built after 4/2006).
- To install, tighten to:
- Remove the dust shield from the steering gear housing.
- Remove the intermediate shaft-to-steering gear bolt and remove the intermediate shaft.
- To install, tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
CAUTION:
Do not allow the steering column shaft to rotate while the intermediate shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring can result. If there is evidence that the steering column shaft has rotated the clockspring must be removed and recentered. For additional information, refer to
