Muffler and Tailpipe: Installation

NOTE:
Do not tighten any fasteners until all components are aligned.
- Position the muffler and tailpipe assembly. Connect the rubber isolators.
- Loosely install the 2 muffler rear bracket nuts.
- Place new coupling on the catalytic converter-to-muffler joint or, if equipped, exhaust intermediate-to-muffler joint. Make sure the coupling are installed no more the 4 mm (0.15 in) from the back of the button on the end of the pipe.
- Align the exhaust system. For additional information refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM ALIGNMENT .
- Tighten the catalytic converter-to-muffler coupling or, if equipped, exhaust intermediate pipe-to-muffler coupling.
- Tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
- Tighten the 2 rear bracket nuts.
- Tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
NOTE:
Using an abrasive pad, clean the exhaust coupling surface area of any surface rust.
