Crankshaft Rear Seal: Installation

    All vehicles 

    NOTE: The crankshaft rear seal and wear sleeve are installed as an assembly.
    NOTE: Lubricate the outer diameter of the rubber seal with a solution of dish soap and water (approximately 50/50 mix) prior to assembly. Do not use any other type of lubricant.
  1. Apply a bead of Threadlock 262 around the circumference of the outer rear edge of the secondary crankshaft flange.
  2. Using the special tool, install a new crankshaft rear seal.

  3. Install the flywheel front adapter.

  4. Install the flexplate or flywheel and tighten the new bolts in 2 stages, in the sequence shown.
    • Stage 1: Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
    • Stage 2: Tighten to 94 Nm (69 lb-ft).

    5. Vehicles with manual transmission 

  5. Install the clutch disc and pressure plate. For additional information, refer to CLUTCH .

    6. All vehicles 

  6. Install the transmission. For additional information, refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - TORQSHIFT for automatic transmissions or MANUAL TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - ZF 6-SPEED for manual transmissions.
