Camshaft Roller Follower: Removal

- Remove the LH valve cover. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER - LH .
- Remove the air cleaner and air cleaner inlet tube. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
- Remove the RH valve cover. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER - RH .
- Remove the cooling fan shroud. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
- Remove the generator. For additional information, refer to GENERATOR AND REGULATOR . Install the special tools.
- Remove the 4 exhaust manifold-to-exhaust Y-pipe nuts.
- Loosen the transmission mount-to-crossmember nuts.
- Remove the 3 RH engine support insulator nuts, and only loosen the 3 LH engine support insulator nuts.
- Using the special tools, raise the engine.
- Rotate the crankshaft until the piston for the valve being serviced is at the top of its stroke with the intake valve and the exhaust valves closed.
- Using the special tool, compress the valve spring and remove the camshaft roller follower.
- Repeat the previous 2 steps for each camshaft roller follower being serviced.
- Inspect the camshaft roller follower. For additional information, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .

Only use hand tools when removing the transmission mount-to-crossmember nuts or damage to the transmission mount can occur.

Only use hand tools when removing the engine support insulator nuts or damage to the engine support insulators can occur.

If the components are to be reinstalled, they must be installed in the same positions. Mark the components for installation into their original locations.
