Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S): Removal

WARNING:
The normal operating temperature of the exhaust system is very high. Never attempt to service any part of the system until it has cooled. Be especially careful when working around the three-way catalytic converter. The temperature of the three-way catalytic converter rises to a high level after only a few minutes of engine operation. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector.
- Using the special tool, remove the HO2S.
- Apply penetrating lubricant to the HO2S to assist in removal.
