Driveshaft - Front: Removal

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Index-mark the front driveshaft to the front axle and the transfer case.
- Remove and discard the fasteners.
- Remove and discard the front axle flange bolts.
- Remove and discard the U-joint retainers.
- To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
- Remove and discard the 4 front driveshaft-to-transfer case bolts.
- To install, tighten to 100 Nm (74 lb-ft).
- Remove the front driveshaft.
- Compress and separate the front driveshaft from the front axle, then separate the driveshaft from the transfer case.
NOTE:
It may be necessary to unseat the bearing cup assemblies by tapping on the yoke or bearing cup with a plastic or rubber soft-faced hammer.
NOTE:
Wrap electrical tape around the bearing cups to prevent them from falling off the U-joint spider.
