Differential Case and Ring Gear - One Piece, Conventional: Assembly

- Position the differential side gear thrust washers on the differential side gears.
- Use premium long-life grease to lubricate the differential side gear thrust washers and the differential side gear journals.
- Position the differential side gears.
- Using premium long-life grease, assemble the differential pinion thrust washers and the differential pinion gears.
- Engage the differential pinion gears opposite the differential side gears.
- Rotate the differential pinion gears to align the differential pinion shaft bore.
- Insert the differential pinion shaft and install a new differential pinion shaft lock bolt.
- Tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
- Using the special tool, install the differential bearings.
- Install the differential ring gear.
- Place the differential ring gear on the differential case.
- Hand start 3 bolts to align the holes in the differential ring gear and the differential case.
- Place the differential case and differential ring gear on the press bed with the ring gear facing down.
- Press the ring gear into place.
- Using a thread sealant, install the ring gear bolts and tighten.
- Tighten to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft).
- Install the differential case. For additional information, refer to DIFFERENTIAL CASE .
CAUTION:
If a new pinion shaft lock bolt is not available, use thread sealant and tighten to specification.
