Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Mariner and 2006 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

    LH or RH Fenders 

  1. Remove the headlamp assembly. For additional information, refer to EXTERIOR LIGHTING .
  2. Remove the fender splash shield. For additional information, refer to FENDER SPLASH SHIELD .
  3. If equipped, remove the fender moulding. For additional information, refer to EXTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  4. If equipped, remove the rocker panel moulding. For additional information, refer to EXTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  5. Remove the antenna mast and the antenna base fender grommet (from Right fender).

  6. If equipped, remove the side turn indicator.
    1. Push the side turn indicator rearward.
    2. Pull outward from the front and remove the side turn indicator.
      • Disconnect the electrical connector.

  7. Remove the 2 lower fender bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
  8. Remove the rear fender bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
      NOTE: The front door must be open to gain access to the rear fender bolt.
  9. Remove the radiator support brace fender bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
  10. Remove the 4 upper fender bolts and the front fender.
    • To install, tighten to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft).
      NOTE: On the RH side, the antenna base is mounted to the body inside the fender opening. The RH fender must be lifted over the base during removal.
  11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
