Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Mariner and 2006 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The transmission range (TR) sensor is part of the transmission selector lever assembly.
  1. Remove the transmission selector lever trim ring.
    • Carefully pry up the 4 trim ring clips, then remove the trim ring.

  2. Remove the floor console finish panel. For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE .
  3. CAUTION: Before installation, make sure the transmission selector lever is in the DRIVE position with the ignition in the OFF position.

  4. Disconnect the shift cable end from the transmission selector lever ball stud.
  5. Release the cable retainer from the transmission selector lever assembly.

  6. Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
  7. Remove the 4 bolts. To install, tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).

  8. Remove the transmission selector lever assembly.
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
