Test K: Keyless Entry Keypad Illumination Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln Blackwood. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: After making any repairs, retest system for proper operation.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect keyless entry keypad harness connector C500. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below driver's side of instrument panel, right of steering column. Using NGS tester, command keyless entry keypad backlighting ON. Measure voltage between ground and keyless entry keypad harness connector C500 terminal No. 7 (Light Blue wire). See Figure. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exists, go to step  3.
  2. Measure resistance between ground and keyless entry keypad harness connector C500 terminal No. 2 (Black wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire between keyless entry keypad and ground. Ground is located behind right kick panel. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace keyless entry keypad. See KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Disconnect Central Security Module (CSM) harness connector C274b. CSM is located behind instrument panel, left of steering column. Measure resistance between ground and CSM harness connector C274b terminal No. 15 (Light Blue wire). See Figure. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Light Blue wire between CSM and keyless entry keypad. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  4. Measure resistance in Light Blue wire between CSM harness connector C274b terminal No. 15 and keyless entry keypad harness connector C500 terminal No. 7. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Blue wire between CSM and keyless entry keypad. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  5. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Disconnect all CSM harness connectors. CSM is located behind instrument panel, left of steering column. Check for backed out or corroded terminals. Repair terminals as necessary. Connect all CSM harness connectors. Check operation of power door lock system. If problem still exists, replace CSM. See CENTRAL SECURITY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If problem does not exist, clear all DTCs and perform CSM self-test.
