Valve Cover: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Mariner and 2006 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths.
  1. Clean and inspect the sealing surfaces.
    2. NOTE: Clean and inspect the gasket. Install a new gasket, if necessary.
  2. Install the valve cover, gasket and retainers.
    • Tighten in the sequence shown to 10 N.m (89 lb-in).

  3. Connect the CHT sensor electrical connector.
  4. Connect the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor electrical connector.
  5. Connect the CMP sensor electrical connector.
  6. Install the 3 engine cover studs.
  7. Connect the crankcase vent hose.
  8. Install the ignition coil-on-plugs. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
