Removal and Installation

CAUTION:
Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.
- Depower the supplemental restraint system. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
- Remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to CONSOLE - FLOOR .
- Remove the 4 pin-type retainers and the 2 front door scuff plates.
- Remove the A-piller trim panel.
- Remove the 2 pin-type retainers and the 2 A-pillar lower trim panels.
- Remove the instrument panel steering column opening cover.
- Remove the LH and RH instrument panel end trim panels.
- Remove the instrument cluster. For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .
- Disconnect the main electrical connector.
- Remove the ground wire bolt and position the ground wire aside.
- Remove the 2 bolts and position the hood release handle aside.
- To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
- Remove the steering column coupler access cover.
- Remove the steering column pinch bolt and disconnect the intermediate shaft.
- To install, tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
- Remove the cover panel pin-type retainer and the cover panel.
- Release the retaining clip from the instrument panel center brace.
- Disconnect the climate control vacuum harness connector.
- Disconnect the restraint control module (RCM) electrical connector.
- Open the glove compartment door.
- Disconnect the temperature control cable from the blend door shaft.
- Using the special tool, align the locator holes.
- Release the locking tab.
- Disconnect the temperature control cable.
- Remove the 4 transmission selector lever bolts and position the transmission selector lever aside.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors.
- To install, tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft) for automatic transaxle.
- To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) for manual transaxle.
- Remove the bolts and position the parking brake control aside
- Disconnect the electrical connectors.
- To install, tighten to 24 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Open the glove compartment.
- Press the release tabs inward while lowering the glove compartment.
- Disconnect the blower motor electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the antenna cable in-line connector.
- Remove the cover and the instrument panel cowl top bolt.
- To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
- Remove the 4 instrument panel center brace bolts.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Remove the instrument panel cluster opening nut through the instrument cluster opening.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
- Remove the 4 instrument panel cowl side bolts.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Remove the instrument panel.NOTE: This step requires an assistant.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- If equipped with automatic transmission, adjust the linkage. For additional information, refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION EXTERNAL CONTROLS - CD4E or AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION EXTERNAL CONTROLS - HYBRID .
- Re-power the supplemental restraint system. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
NOTE:
Upon installation, make sure all instrument panel and audio wiring is correctly routed and not pinched between the instrument panel, brackets or floor plan.
