Rear Drive Shaft (Two-Piece): Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Index mark the drive shaft to the rear axle pinion flange. See Figure. Remove 4 bolts, disconnect and remove the rear drive shaft section.
  2. Support the coupling shaft, and remove the 2 center bearing support bracket retaining bolts. See Fig 1. Apply the parking brake. Index mark the coupling shaft and parking brake assembly. Remove the 4 coupling shaft "U" Joint retainer bolts from the parking brake assembly. See Fig 2.
  3. If a output flange on the parking brake assembly needs to be replaced, see DISC & DRUM - ECONOLINE article in BRAKES. Separate the coupling shaft from the parking brake assembly. Remove the front drive shaft section.
