Test B: Unable To Enter Generic Electronic Module Self-Test

NOTE: Prior to replacement of GEM module, it is necessary to upload module configuration information using NGS tester. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.

Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below driver's side of instrument panel, right of steering column. Using NGS tester, perform self-test diagnostics for Generic Electronic Module (GEM). If NGS tester communicates with GEM, replace GEM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If NGS tester does not communicate with GEM, perform TEST A: NO COMMUNICATION WITH GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE .
