Test F: Memory Seat Inoperative

WARNING: Vehicle is equipped with seatback-mounted air bags. Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation involving seat components. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS.
CAUTION: Air Bag Simulator (40-009) MUST be connected to all air bag floor harness connectors. After diagnosis/repair, air bag simulator must be removed prior to operating vehicle.
  1. Ensure vehicle is in Park. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to DLC. DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, right of steering column. Retrieve and note continuous DTCs. Clear continuous DTCs. Using NGS tester, perform Driver's Seat Module (DSM) self-test. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If any DTCs are retrieved, go to appropriate step. See TEST "F" DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE TEST INDEX  table.

    (1) Replace driver's seat module. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Clear DTCs and retest system.
  2. Observe DSM PIDs SFNT_SW, SREARSW and SFWD_SW while activating seat switch. If PID values agree with switch positions, go to step  9. If PID values do not agree with switch position and central junction box fuse No. 4 (7.5-amp) is okay, go to next step. If PID values do not agree with switch position and central junction box fuse No. 4 (7.5-amp) fails while operating seat control switch, go to step  7.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check driver's side seat control switch. See SEAT CONTROL SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTS. If switch is okay, go to next step. If switch is defective, replace seat control switch. See SEAT CONTROL SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Measure voltage between ground and driver's side seat control switch harness connector C360 terminal No. 7 (Orange/Light Green wire). See Figure. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Orange/Light Green wire between driver's side seat control switch and central junction box. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  5. Measure resistance between ground and driver's side seat control switch harness connector C360 terminal No. 1 (Black/Light Blue wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Light Blue wire between driver's side seat control switch and ground. Ground point is located behind left kick panel. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  6. Disconnect DSM harness connector C341b. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. With driver's side seat control switch at rest, measure voltages between indicated switch harness connector C360 terminals and ground. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE & SEAT CONTROL SWITCH TEST TERMINALS  table. See Fig 1. If voltage does not exist, go to next step. If voltage exists at any terminal repair, short to voltage in appropriate wire(s) between driver's side seat control switch and voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  7. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. With driver's side seat control switch at rest, measure resistances between indicated switch harness connector C360 terminals and ground. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE & SEAT CONTROL SWITCH TEST TERMINALS  table. If each resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If any resistance 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in appropriate wire(s) between driver's side seat control switch and DSM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  8. Measure resistances between indicated driver's side seat control switch harness connector C360 terminals and DSM harness connector C341b terminals. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE & SEAT CONTROL SWITCH TEST TERMINALS  table. See Figure and Fig 1 . If each resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace DSM. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If any resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire(s) between driver's side seat control switch and DSM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
    DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE & SEAT CONTROL SWITCH TEST TERMINALS

  9. Connect NGS tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, right of steering column. Toggle the following DSM active commands to ON and OFF: FRONT UP, FRONT DWN, REAR UP, REAR DOWN, HORZ FWD and HORZ RWD. If there is no seat movement, go to next step. If driver's side seat operates properly, replace DSM. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If there is no front vertical seat movement, go to step  21. If there is no rear vertical seat movement, go to step  24. If there is no horizontal seat movement, go to step  27.
  10. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect DSM harness connector C341d. DSM is located under driver's side seat. Measure voltage between ground and DSM 2-pin harness connector C341d terminal No. 1 (Dark Green wire). If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, go to step  14.
  11. Remove and inspect battery junction box fuse No. 36 (30-amp). If fuse is blown, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step  13.
  12. Measure resistance between ground and DSM harness connector C341d terminal No. 1 (Dark Green wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, repair battery junction box as necessary. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Dark Green wire between battery junction box and DSM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  13. Measure resistance in Dark Green wire between DSM harness connector C341d terminal No. 1 and battery junction box fuse No. 36 fuse (input side). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Dark Green wire between battery junction box and DSM. Ground point is located behind left rear seat. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  14. Measure resistance between ground and DSM harness connector C341d terminal No. 2 (Black wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire between DSM and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  15. Disconnect DSM harness connector C341c. Measure resistance between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 11 (Red/Light Blue wire). Measure resistance between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 6 (Yellow/Light Blue wire). See Fig 1. If either resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, go to next step. If each resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to step  17.
  16. Disconnect DSM harness connector C341a. Disconnect seat motor assembly harness connector C357. Measure resistance between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 11 (Red/Light Blue wire). Measure resistance between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 6 (Yellow/Light Blue wire). See Fig 1. If each resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace seat track. See SEAT TRACK  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If either resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in appropriate wire(s) between DSM and seat motor assembly. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  17. Reconnect seat motor harness connector C357. Measure resistance between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 13 (Red/Light Green wire). Measure resistance between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 5 (Yellow/Light Green wire). See Fig 2. If either resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, go to next step. If each resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to step  19.
  18. Disconnect seat motor assembly harness connector C357. Measure resistance between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 13 (Red/Light Green wire). Measure resistance between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 5 (Yellow/Light Green wire). If each resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace seat motor assembly. See SEAT MOTOR ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If either resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in appropriate wire(s) between DSM and seat motor assembly. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  19. Connect seat motor assembly harness connector C357. Measure resistance between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 4 (Yellow/White wire). Measure resistance between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 14 (Red/White wire). If either resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, go to next step. If each resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace DSM. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  20. Disconnect seat motor assembly harness connector C357. Measure resistance between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 4 (Yellow/White wire). Measure resistance between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 14 (Red/White wire). If each resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace seat motor assembly. See SEAT MOTOR ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If either resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in appropriate wire(s) between DSM and seat motor assembly. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  21. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Ensure vehicle is in Park. Disconnect seat motor assembly harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and seat motor assembly harness connector C357 terminals No. 2 (Red/Light Blue wire) and No. 4 (Yellow/Light Blue wire), while toggling DSM active commands FRONT UP and FRONT DOWN to ON and OFF. If voltage stays at zero volts, go to next step. If voltage changes from zero volts, replace seat motor assembly. See SEAT MOTOR ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  22. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect DSM harness connector C341c. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 11 (Red/Light Blue wire). Measure voltage between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 6 (Yellow/Light Blue wire). See Fig 2. If no voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in appropriate wire(s). See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  23. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance in Red/Light Blue wire between DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 11 and seat motor assembly harness connector C357 terminal No. 2. Measure resistance in Yellow/Light Blue wire between DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 6 and seat motor assembly harness connector C357 terminal No. 4. See Figure and Fig 2 . If each resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace DSM. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If either resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire(s) between DSM and seat motor assembly. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  24. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Ensure vehicle is in Park. Disconnect seat motor assembly harness connector C357. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between terminals No. 3 (Red/Light Green wire) and No. 1 (Yellow/Light Green wire) at seat motor assembly harness connector C357, while toggling DSM active commands REAR UP and REAR DOWN to ON and OFF. See Figure. If voltage stays at zero volts, go to next step. If voltage changes from zero volts, replace seat motor assembly. See SEAT MOTOR ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  25. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect DSM harness connector C341c. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 13 (Red/Light Green wire). Measure voltage between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 5 (Yellow/Light Green wire). See Fig 2. If voltage does not exist, go to next step. If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in appropriate wire(s) between DSM and seat motor assembly. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  26. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance in Red/Light Green wire between DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 13 and seat motor assembly harness connector terminal No. 3. Measure resistance in Yellow/Light Green wire between DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 5 and seat motor assembly harness connector terminal No. 1. If each resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace DSM. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If either resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire(s) between DSM and seat motor assembly. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  27. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Ensure vehicle is in Park. Disconnect seat motor assembly harness connector C357. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between seat motor assembly harness connector terminals No. 5 (Yellow/White wire) and No. 6 (Red/White wire) while toggling DSM active commands HORZ FWD and HORZ RWD to ON and OFF. See Figure. If voltage stays at zero volts, go to next step. If voltage changes from zero volts, replace seat motor assembly. See SEAT MOTOR ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  28. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect DSM harness connector C341c. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 4 (Yellow/White wire). Measure voltage between ground and DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 14 (Red/White wire). See Fig 2. If there is no voltage, go to next step. If there is any voltage, repair short to voltage in appropriate wire(s) between DSM and seat motor assembly. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  29. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance in Yellow/White wire between DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 4 and seat motor assembly harness connector terminal No. 5. Measure resistance in Red/White wire between DSM harness connector C341c terminal No. 14 and seat motor assembly harness connector terminal No. 6. If each resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace DSM. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If either resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire(s) between DSM and seat motor assembly. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
