Pinpoint Test Ab: The Strobe Lamps Are Inoperative

  1. AB1 DETERMINE IF ALL THE STROBE LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Turn the strobe lamp function on and observe the strobe lamps.
    • Are all the strobe lamps inoperative? 

    Yes  : TURN the strobe lamp function off. GO to  AB7.

    No  : TURN the strobe lamp function off. GO to AB2.

  2. AB2 CHECK THE STROBE LAMP CIRCUITRY FOR A SHORT 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Strobe Lamp Control Module Relay.
      WARNING: The strobe lamp power supply is a high voltage device. Do not touch or remove the strobe lamp assembly while the unit is in operation. Wait at least 10 minutes after turning off the power before continuing diagnostics. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
    • Disconnect: Inoperative Strobe Lamp.
    • Disconnect: Corresponding Strobe Lamp Module Connector.
    • Measure the resistance between the inoperative strobe lamp pins, harness side as follows:

    • Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 

    Yes  : GO to AB3.

    No  : REPAIR the circuits in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

  3. AB3 CHECK CIRCUIT 361 (RD) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between the inoperative strobe lamp, harness side and the strobe lamp control module, harness side as follows:
      STROBE LAMP AND STROBE LAMP CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR AND CIRCUIT

    • Is the resistance less than 1 ohm? 

    Yes  : GO to AB4.

    No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

  4. AB4 CHECK THE STROBE LAMP CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between the inoperative strobe lamp, harness side and the corresponding strobe lamp control module connector as follows:
      STROBE LAMP AND STROBE LAMP CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR AND CIRCUIT

    • Is the resistance less than 1 ohm? 

    Yes  : GO to AB5.

    No  : REPAIR circuit 556 (WH). TEST the system for normal operation.

  5. AB5 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN (STROBE LAMP) 
    • Measure the resistance between the inoperative strobe lamp, harness side, and the strobe lamp control module, harness side as follows:
      STROBE LAMP AND STROBE LAMP CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR AND CIRCUIT

    • Is the resistance less than 1 ohm? 

    Yes  : GO to AB6.

    No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

  6. AB6 CHECK THE STROBE LAMP 
    WARNING: The strobe lamp power supply is a high voltage device. Do not touch or remove the strobe lamp assembly while the unit is in operation. Wait at least 10 minutes after turning off the power before continuing diagnostics. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
    • Substitute a known good strobe lamp.
    • Connect: Strobe Lamp Control Module.
    • Connect: Strobe Lamp Control Module Relay.
    • Turn the strobe lamp function on and observe the strobe lamps.
    • Does the strobe light operate correctly? 

    Yes  : INSTALL a new strobe lamp. TEST the system for normal operation.

    No  : INSTALL a new strobe lamp control module. TEST the system for normal operation.

  7. AB7 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN (STROBE LAMP CONTROL MODULE) 
    WARNING: The strobe lamp power supply is a high voltage device. Do not touch or remove the strobe lamp assembly while the unit is in operation. Wait at least 10 minutes after turning off the power before continuing diagnostics. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Strobe Lamp Control Module.
    • Measure the resistance between the strobe lamp control module, harness side and ground as follows:
      CONNECTOR AND CIRCUIT

      Connector-Pin Circuit
      C4231a-3 57 (BK)
      C4231b-3 57 (BK)
      C4231c-2 57 (BK)
    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes  : GO to AB8.

    No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

  8. AB8 CHECK THE VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Activate the strobe lamp function from the strobe/light bar switches.
    • Measure the voltage between the strobe lamp control module, harness side and ground as follows:
      CONNECTOR AND CIRCUIT

    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? 

    Yes  : INSTALL a new strobe lamp control module. TEST the system for normal operation.

    No  : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
