Recommended Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2003 Ford RV Cutaway, 2003 Ford Pickup, 2003 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2003 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2003 Ford Excursion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Camshaft Position (CMP) signal is required before IPR is commanded above 14 percent.

Using scan tool, access ICP and IPR PIDs from PID/DATA MONITOR & RECORD menu. Crank engine while monitoring ICP and IPR PID readings. If IPR PID reading goes above 14 percent, ICP PID pressure reading should be 500 psi (3450 kPa) or more provided that oil reservoir is full, IPR valve is not stuck open, high pressure pump is building pressure and there is not an injection control pressure leak between high pressure pump and all injectors. If ICP PID reading is 500 psi (3450 kPa) or more, go to TEST 9D: CHECK FUEL PULSE WIDTH WHILE CRANKING . If ICP PID reading is less than 500 psi (3450 kPa), injectors will not be enabled by PCM because of insufficient rail pressure. Perform INJECTION CONTROL PRESSURE LEAK TEST .
