Recommended Procedure

Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using scan tool, access RPM PID from PID/DATA MONITOR & RECORD menu. Crank engine while monitoring RPM PID reading. If RPM PID reading indicates less than 100 RPM, check CMP sensor circuit. See TEST DF: CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR under SYSTEM TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 7.3L DIESEL article.
