Double CARDAN Universal Joints: Disassembly

  1. Place the drive shaft on a suitable workbench. DO NOT damage the tube. Index mark the drive shaft components. See Fig 1 . Remove 2 snap rings from the drive shaft center yoke, and 2 snap rings from the drive shaft centering socket yoke. Clamp the "C" Frame and Screw Installer/Remover (205-086, T74P-4635-C), in a vise.
  2. Remove the bearing cups and the drive shaft centering socket yoke. Position the drive shaft center yoke in the "C" frame and screw installer/remover and press out a bearing cup. See Fig 2 . Rotate the drive shaft center yoke 180 degrees. Press on the spider to remove the opposite bearing cup.
  3. Position the drive shaft centering socket yoke in the "C" frame and screw installer/remover. See Fig 3 . Press out a bearing cup. Rotate the drive shaft centering socket yoke 180 degrees. Press on the spider to remove the opposite bearing cup. Remove the spider and the bearing cup.
  4. Remove the centering cup spring. See Fig 4 . Remove the 4 remaining snap rings. Position the drive shaft center yoke in the "C" frame and screw installer/remover. See Fig 5 . Press out a bearing cup. Rotate the drive shaft center yoke 180 degrees. Press on the spider to remove the opposite bearing cup. Remove the drive shaft center yoke.
  5. Remove the bearing cups and the spider. See Fig 6 . Position the drive shaft yoke in the "C" frame and screw installer/remover and press out a bearing cup. Rotate the drive shaft yoke 180 degrees. Press on the spider to remove the opposite bearing cup and remove the spider.
