Double CARDAN Universal Joints: Assembly

  1. Install the NEW spider and bearing cups. Start a NEW bearing cup in the drive shaft yoke. Check the needle bearings for correct positioning. Position the NEW spider in the drive shaft yoke. See Figure . Position the drive shaft yoke in the "C" frame and screw installer/remover. Press the bearing cup to just below the snap ring groove. Repeat to install the NEW bearing cup on the opposite side of the drive shaft yoke.
  2. Install the drive shaft center yoke and NEW bearing cups. Start a NEW bearing cup in the drive shaft center yoke. Check the needle bearings for correct positioning. Position the drive shaft center yoke on the spider. See Figure . Position the assembly in the "C" frame and screw installer/remover. Press the bearing cup to just below the snap ring groove. Repeat to install the NEW bearing cup on the opposite side of the drive shaft center yoke.
  3. Install 4 NEW snap rings. See Figure . Install a NEW centering cup spring. Install a NEW spider and bearing cups. Start a NEW bearing cup in the drive shaft centering socket yoke. Check the needle bearings for correct positioning. Position the NEW spider in the drive shaft centering socket yoke. See Figure . Position the drive shaft centering socket yoke in the special tool. Press the bearing cup to just below the snap ring groove. Repeat to install the NEW bearing cup on the opposite side of the drive shaft centering socket yoke.
  4. Install the drive shaft centering socket yoke and NEW bearing cups. Start a NEW bearing cup in the drive shaft center yoke. Position the spider in the drive shaft center yoke. Position the assembly in the "C" frame and screw installer/remover. See Figure . Press the bearing cup to just below the snap ring groove. Repeat to install the NEW bearing cup on the opposite side of the drive shaft center yoke.
    5. NOTE: DO NOT strike the bearings.
  5. Install the remaining NEW snap rings. Check the "U" joints for freedom of movement. If bearings are binding, strike the yoke with a plastic hammer.
