Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis and 2006 Ford Crown Victoria. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Using the parking brake release handle, release the parking brake control.
  2. WARNING: The electrical power to the air suspension system must be shut off prior to hoisting, jacking or towing an air suspension vehicle. This can be accomplished by turning off the air suspension switch located in the luggage compartment. Failure to do so can result in unexpected inflation or deflation of the air springs, which can result in shifting of the vehicle during these operations.
  3. If equipped, turn the air suspension service switch to the OFF position.
  4. WARNING: If equipped with fire suppression system, depower the system. For important safety warnings and procedures, refer to FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM .
  5. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  6. Pull the parking brake adjuster clip downward.

  7. Apply the parking brake control fully.
  8. Push up on the parking brake adjuster clip to lock the adjuster.

  9. Using the parking brake release handle, release the parking brake control.
  10. Disconnect the front parking brake cable and conduit from the LH parking brake rear cable and conduit at the cable connector.
  11. Press the retaining tabs, and remove the front parking brake cable and conduit retainer from the bracket.
  12. Remove the parking brake cable bracket bolt and the bracket.
    • To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  13. Disconnect the front parking brake cable and conduit from the parking brake control.
  14. Push the front parking brake cable and conduit down, and remove the front parking brake cable and conduit.
  15. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  16. WARNING: If equipped with fire suppression system, repower the system. For important safety warnings and procedures, refer to FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM .
  17. If equipped with fire suppression system, repower the system.
