DTC P0A05: Motor Electronics Coolant Pump Relay (MECP) Primary Circuit Malfunction

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Mariner and 2006 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
P0A05 - MOTOR ELECTRONICS COOLANT PUMP RELAY (MECP) PRIMARY CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION

Description:  The PCM monitors the MECP primary circuit output. The test fails if: the PCM grounds the MECP circuit, and excessive current draw is detected on the MECP circuit; or, with the MECP circuit not grounded by the PCM, voltage is not detected on the MECP circuit. The PCM expects to detect VPWR voltage coming through the MECP relay coil to the MECP circuit.
Possible Causes:
  • Open or shorted MECP circuit.
  • Open VPWR to the MECP relay.
  • Damaged MECP relay.
  • Damaged harness.
Diagnostic Aids:  When the MECP_F PID reads YES, a fault is present.
Application  Key On Engine Off  Key On Engine Running  Continuous Memory
All GO to Pinpoint Test KT .
