Test K: Integrated Circuit Display Inoperative Or Erratic

NOTE: After repair, retest system.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect NGVM harness connector C1009. NGVM is located on center radiator support behind radiator. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at NGVM harness connector C1009 between terminals No. 37 (Red wire) and No. 40 (Black/Yellow wire). See Figure. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to step  6.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance at NGVM harness connector C1009 between terminals No. 26 (Brown/White wire) and No. 37 (Red wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short between Red wire and Brown/White wire.
  3. Measure resistance between terminals No. 26 (Brown/White wire) and No. 40 (Black/Yellow wire) at NGVM harness connector C1009. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Brown/White wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  4. Measure resistance between ground and NGVM harness connector C1009 terminal No. 40 (Black/Yellow wire). See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Red wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to step  7.
  5. Reconnect NGVM harness connector C1009. Measure resistance between harness connector C1009 terminals No. 16 (Black/Light Blue wire) and No. 40 (Black/Yellow wire) by backprobing C1009. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to step  7.
  6. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C220b. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220b terminal No. 17 (Pink/Orange wire). See Fig 1. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to step  8. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Pink/Orange wire between instrument cluster and ground. Ground point is located behind left kick panel. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  7. Disconnect NGVM harness connector C1009. NGVM is located on center radiator support behind radiator. Inspect for pushed out terminals and corrosion. Reconnect NGVM harness connector, ensuring it is connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace NGVM. See NATURAL GAS VEHICLE MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and repeat self-test.
  8. Disconnect both instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for pushed out terminals and corrosion. Reconnect instrument cluster harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and repeat self-test.
