Test A: Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor Circuit Failure (DTC B1219)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: After making any repairs, clear DTCs and retest system.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below center of instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe Natural Gas Vehicle Module (NGVM) PID TANKPR. If PID TANKPR displays zero (psi), go to next step. If PID TANKPR does not display zero, inspect harness connectors for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Clear DTCs. Test system for normal operation. If DTC B1219 is retrieved again, go to step  13.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect NGVM 60-pin harness connector C1009. NGVM is located on center radiator support behind radiator. Disconnect fuel tank pressure sensor 4-pin harness connector C4127. Fuel tank pressure sensor is located in rear of in-bed fuel tank solenoid valve. Measure resistance at NGVM harness connector C1009 between terminals No. 7 (Dark Green/Orange wire) and No. 46 (Brown wire). See Fig 1. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short between Dark Green/Orange wire and Brown wire between NGVM and fuel tank pressure sensor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  3. Connect NGVM harness connector C1009. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector C4127 between Brown wire terminal and Brown/White wire terminal. If voltage is 4.0-6.0 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 4.0-6.0 volts, go to step  6.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Using a jumper wire, connect Dark Green/Orange wire terminal and Brown/White wire terminal at fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector C4127. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at NGVM harness connector C1009 between terminals No. 7 (Dark Green/Orange wire) and No. 26 (Brown/White wire). If voltage is 4.61 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 4.61 volts, go to step  6.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Ensure NGVM harness connector C1009 is disconnected. Measure resistance in Brown/White wire between NGVM harness connector C1009 terminal No. 26 and fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector C4127 terminal No. 1. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Dark Green/Orange wire between NGVM and fuel tank pressure sensor. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown/White wire between NGVM and fuel tank pressure sensor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance in Brown wire between NGVM harness connector C1009 terminal No. 46 and fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector C4127 terminal No. 2. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown wire between NGVM and fuel tank pressure sensor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  7. Measure resistance at NGVM harness connector C1009 between terminals No. 26 (Brown/White wire) and No. 40 (Black/Yellow wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Brown/White wire between NGVM and fuel tank pressure sensor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  8. Measure resistance at NGVM harness connector C1009 between terminals No. 40 (Black/Yellow wire) and No. 46 (Brown wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Brown wire between NGVM and fuel tank pressure sensor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  9. Measure resistance in Brown/White wire between NGVM harness connector C1009 terminal No. 26 and fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector C4127. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown/White wire between NGVM and fuel tank pressure sensor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  10. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector C4127 Brown/White wire terminal. If voltage is 0.5 volt or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 0.5 volt, repair short to voltage in Brown/White wire between NGVM and fuel tank pressure sensor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  11. Check fuel tank solenoid operation. See UNABLE TO VENT FUEL TANKS OR FUEL LINES under FUEL SYSTEMS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - EEC-V - NGV article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If all fuel tank solenoids operate correctly, go to next step. If any fuel tank solenoids do not operate correctly, repair as necessary.
  12. Check fuel system for leaks. See COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS LEAK TEST under FUEL SYSTEMS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - EEC-V - NGV article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If fuel system does not leak, go to next step. If fuel system leaks, repair leaks as necessary.
  13. Disconnect NGVM harness connector C1009. Inspect for pushed out terminals and corrosion. Reconnect NGVM harness connector, ensuring it is connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace NGVM. See NATURAL GAS VEHICLE MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and repeat self-test.
