Test P: Abs Indicator Inoperative Or Always On

CAUTION: Use correct probe adapter(s) when testing at anti-lock brake module harness connector. Failure to do so may damage harness connector.
NOTE: After making any repairs, clear DTCs and perform self-test.
  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) warning indicator illuminates and then goes out, go to next step. If ABS warning indicator is always on, diagnose 4-Wheel Anti-lock Brake System (4WABS). See ANTI-LOCK/TRACTION CONTROL article in BRAKES.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect 4WABS control module harness connector C135. Connect a fused jumper wire (10-amp) between harness connector C220a terminal No. 16 (Dark Green wire) and ground. See Figure. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If ABS warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If ABS indicator illuminates, go to step  5.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 20-pin harness connector C220a. Measure resistance between harness connector C220a terminal No. 16 (Dark Green wire) and ground. See Figure. If resistance is less than 10k/ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Green wire and test system operation. If resistance is greater than 10k/ohms, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between harness connector C220a terminal No. 16 (Dark Green wire) and ground. If any voltage is present, repair short to power in Dark Green wire and test system operation. If no voltage is present, go to step  6.
  5. Disconnect all 4WABS control module harness connectors. Inspect harness connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Reconnect all 4WABS control module harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace 4WABS control module. See ELECTRONIC SUSPENSION article in SUSPENSION . If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and perform self-test.
  6. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect harness connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and perform self-test.
