Test N: High Beam Indicator Inoperative Or Always On
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln Blackwood. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
After making any repairs, clear DTCs and perform self-test.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Operate high beams. If high beams operate correctly, go to next step. If high beams do not operate correctly, repair as necessary. See EXTERIOR LIGHTS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 20-pin harness connector C220a. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster 20-pin harness connector C220a terminal No. 12 (Gray/White wire) while turning high beams on and off. See Figure. Voltage should be zero volts with high beams off and battery voltage with high beams on. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, repair open in Gray/White wire between instrument cluster and splice S2000. Splice S2000 is located by central junction box.
- Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect harness connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time.
