Test M: Traction Control Indicator Is Always/Never On

NOTE:
After making any repairs, clear DTCs and perform self-test.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Operate traction control switch while observing the traction control indicator. If traction control indicator operates correctly, system is operating correctly at this time no further testing needed. If traction control indicator is never on, go to step 4. If traction control indicator is always on, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect 4WABS control module harness connector C135. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If traction control warning indicator does not illuminate, go to appropriate TRACTION CONTROL article in BRAKES. If traction control indicator illuminates, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C220a. Measure resistance between harness connector C220a terminal No. 4 (Violet wire) and ground. If resistance is greater than 10k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10k/ohms, repair short to ground in Violet wire and test system operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect 4WABS control module harness connector C135. Connect a fused jumper wire (10-amp) between harness connector C135 terminal No. 7 (Violet wire) and ground. See Fig 1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If traction control warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If ABS indicator illuminates, go to appropriate TRACTION CONTROL article in BRAKES.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C220a. Measure resistance between harness connector C220a terminal No. 4 and ABS harness connector C135 terminal No. 7 (both Violet wires). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Violet wire between instrument cluster and ABS harness connector, test system operation.
- Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect harness connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and perform self-test.
