Test H: Safety Belt Indicator Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly (Chime Okay)

NOTE: After making any repairs, clear DTCs and perform self-test.
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect NGS tester to DLC connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Retrieve continuous DTCs from GEM. If DTC B1426 is received, go to step  4. If DTC 1428 is received, go to step  3. If no DTCs related to concern are received, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connector C201a. GEM is located on back side of central junction box, under left side of instrument panel. Connect fused jumper wire (5-amp) between GEM 26-pin harness connector C201a terminal No. 12 (Dark Green/Light Green wire) and ground. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. See Figure. If seat belt indicator does not illuminate, go to step  5. If seat belt indicator illuminates, go to step  6.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 22-pin harness connector C220b. Measure resistance in Dark Green/Light Green wire between instrument cluster harness connector C220b terminal No. 10 and GEM 26-pin harness connector C201a terminal No. 12. Also measure resistance between C220b terminal No. 10 and ground. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less between instrument cluster and GEM and greater than 10k/ohms to ground, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms between instrument cluster and GEM and less than 10k/ohms to ground, repair open or short to ground in Dark Green/Light Green wire between instrument cluster harness connector C220b and GEM harness connector C201a.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connector C201a. Measure voltage between ground and GEM harness connector C201a terminal No. 12 (Dark Green/Light Green wire). See Figure. If any voltage exists, repair short to power in Dark Green/Light Green wire. If no voltage exists, go to next step.
  5. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect harness connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and perform self-test.
  6. Disconnect all GEM harness connectors. Inspect harness connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all GEM harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace GEM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and perform self-test.
