Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Deactivation and Reactivation: Reactivation

    All vehicles 

  1. Remove the RCM fuse F2.05 from the CJB.
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least 1 minute.

    3. Vehicles without side air curtains 

  3. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the vehicle harness side of the driver seat side air bag electrical connector.

    4. Vehicles with side air curtains 

  4. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the vehicle harness side of the driver seat side thorax air bag electrical connector.

    5. All vehicles 

  5. Connect the driver seat side air bag or driver seat side thorax air bag electrical connector.

    Vehicles without side air curtains 

  6. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the vehicle harness side of the passenger seat side air bag electrical connector.

    7. Vehicles with side air curtains 

  7. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the vehicle harness side of the passenger seat side thorax air bag electrical connector.

    8. All vehicles 

  8. Connect the passenger seat side air bag or passenger seat side thorax air bag electrical connector.

    9. Vehicles with side air curtains 

  9. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the vehicle harness side of the passenger side air curtain module electrical connector.

  10. Connect the passenger side air curtain module electrical connector.

  11. Install the A-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .

    12. All vehicles 

  12. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the vehicle harness side of the passenger air bag module electrical connector.

    13. NOTE: The inset view of the illustration is looking up into the instrument panel from underneath.
    NOTE: The passenger air bag module electrical connector is located in front of the cross-car beam attached by a pin-type retainer to a bracket on the back of the passenger air bag module.

  13. Locate the passenger air bag module electrical connector.
  14. Connect the passenger air bag module.

  15. Install the glove compartment. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .

    16. Vehicles with side air curtains 

    NOTE: If the headliner has the word "AIRBAG" embossed on it near each B-pillar, the vehicle is equipped with side air curtain modules.

  16. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the vehicle harness side of the driver side air curtain module electrical connector.
  17. Connect the driver side air curtain module electrical connector.

  18. Install the A-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .

    19. All vehicles 

  19. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tools from the clockspring electrical connectors at the top of the steering column.

    20. CAUTION: The clockspring electrical connectors are unique and cannot be reversed when connected to the driver air bag module. Match the electrical connector key to the keyway in the driver air bag module. Do not force the electrical connectors into the driver air bag module.

  20. Connect and position the driver air bag module.
    1. Connect the driver air bag module electrical connectors.
    2. Position the driver air bag module to the steering wheel.
  21. Install the 2 driver air bag module bolts (1 shown).

  22. Install the 2 steering wheel plugs (1 shown).

  23. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to ON.
  24. Install the restraints control module fuse F2.05 (10A) to the CJB and install the RH kick panel cover.
    25. WARNING: Be sure that nobody is in the vehicle and that there is nothing blocking or set in front of any air bag module when the battery ground cable is connected.
  25. Connect the battery ground cable.
  26. Prove out the supplemental restraint system (SRS) as follows:

    Turn the ignition key from ON to OFF. Wait 10 seconds, then turn the key back to ON and visually monitor the air bag indicator with the air bag modules installed. The air bag indicator will light continuously for approximately 6 seconds and then turn off. If an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault is present, the air bag indicator will either:

    • fail to light.
    • remain lit continuously.
    • flash.

    The flashing might not occur until approximately 30 seconds after the ignition switch has been turned from the OFF to the ON position. This is the time required for the restraints control module (RCM) to complete the testing of the SRS. If the air bag indicator is inoperative and a SRS fault exists, a chime will sound in a pattern of 5 sets of 5 beeps. If this occurs, the air bag indicator and any SRS fault discovered must be diagnosed and repaired.

    Clear all continuous DTCs from the restraints control module using a scan tool.
