Pinpoint Test K: LFC 42, 43, 44, 45 And 46/DTC B2296 - Restraint System Impact Sensor Fault

NOTE: Most faults are due to connector and/or wiring concerns. Carry out a thorough Inspection and Verification before proceeding with the Pinpoint Test.
  1. K1 CHECK FOR A HARD OR INTERMITTENT DTC 
    WARNING: Restraint system Diagnostic tools are for service only. Tools must be removed prior to operating the vehicle over the road. Failure to remove restraint system Diagnostic tools could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.
    WARNING: Never probe the connectors on the air bag module. Doing so can result in air bag deployment, which can result in personal injury.
    WARNING: The safety belt pretensioner is a pyrotechnic device. Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag equipped vehicle and when handling a safety belt buckle pretensioner or safety belt retractor pretensioner. Never probe a pretensioner electrical connector. Doing so could result in pretensioner or air bag deployment and could result in personal injury.
    WARNING: Never probe the electrical connector on a side air curtain module. Doing so can result in side air curtain deployment.
    NOTE: After diagnosing or repairing an SRS, the restraint system Diagnostic tools must be removed before operating the vehicle over the road.
    NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Retrieve/Flag/Record Continuous DTCs.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    • Yes  : This is a hard fault. The fault condition is still present. This fault cannot be cleared until it is corrected and the DTC is no longer retrieved during the on-demand self test.

      If a flagged fault of "?" was recorded, multiple faults exist and the entire pinpoint test must be carried out.

      For first row driver side impact (FDSEN) sensor with a mounting/communications (COMM) fault, GO to  K2.

      For first row driver side impact sensor (FDSEN) with an internal fault (INT) fault, INSTALL a new first row driver side impact sensor. REFER to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FIRST ROW, B-PILLAR  in this article. GO to  K54.

      For first row passenger side impact sensor (FPSEN) with a mounting/communications (COMM) fault, GO to  K12.

      For first row passenger side impact sensor (FPSEN) with an internal fault (INT) fault, INSTALL a new first row passenger side impact sensor. REFER to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FIRST ROW, B-PILLAR  in this article. GO to  K54.

      For second row driver side impact sensor (D2SEN) with a mounting/communication (COMM) fault, GO to  K22.

      For second row driver side impact sensor (D2SEN) with an internal (INT) fault, INSTALL a new second row driver side impact sensor. REFER to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - SECOND ROW, C-PILLAR  in this article. GO to  K54.

      For second row passenger side impact sensor (P2 SEN) with a mounting/communications (COMM) fault, GO to  K32.

      For second row passenger side impact sensor (P2SEN) with an internal (INT) fault, INSTALL a new second row passenger side impact sensor. REFER to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - SECOND ROW, C-PILLAR  in this article. GO to  K54.

      For front impact severity sensor (FNTSEN) with a mounting/communications (COMM) fault, GO to  K42.

      For front impact severity sensor (FNTSEN) with an internal fault (INT) fault, INSTALL a new front impact severity sensor. REFER to FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR  in this article. GO to  K54.

    • No  : This is an intermittent fault. The fault condition is not present at this time. GO to  K53.
  2. K2 INSPECT THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR MOUNTING, AND MOUNTING SURFACE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Access the first row driver side impact sensor. For additional information, REFER to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FIRST ROW, B-PILLAR  in this article.
    • Inspect the first row driver side impact sensor for:
      • loose electrical connector.
      • loose sensor mounting bolt.
    • Remove the first row driver side impact sensor.
    • Visually inspect the first row driver side impact sensor, alignment tabs, electrical connector, and mounting surface for damage, corrosion or dirt.
    • Was a significant amount of corrosion or dirt found, or was the first row driver side impact sensor attached to the mounting surface incorrectly or was the impact sensor bolt not fully seated and tightened correctly? 
    • Yes  : CLEAN and TIGHTEN the bolt. REPAIR the mounting surface as necessary. REINSTALL the first row driver side impact sensor. GO to  K54.
    • No  : GO to  K3.
  3. K3 INSTALL THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the first row driver side impact sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the first row driver side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K4.
    • No  : Fault corrected. GO to  K54.
  4. K4 CHECK THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT 9-JA39 (BN) FOR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Disconnect: First Row Driver Side Impact Sensor C3209.
    • Measure the resistance between first row driver side impact sensor C3209 pin 1, circuit 9-JA39 (BN), harness side and the first row driver side impact sensor case ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 100 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K6.
    • No  : GO to  K5.
  5. K5 CLEAN THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Remove the first row driver side impact sensor.
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the first row driver side impact sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the first row driver side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K6.
    • No  : Fault corrected. GO to  K54.
  6. K6 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-JA39 (YE) AND CIRCUIT 9-JA39 (BN) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND THE RCM 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Disconnect: RCM C310a.
    • Disconnect: RCM C310b.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Measure the voltage between first row driver side impact sensor C3209 pin 1, circuit 9-JA39 (BN), harness side and ground; and between pin 2, circuit 7-JA39 (YE), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K7.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 7-JA39 (YE) or circuit 9-JA39 (BN). GO to  K54.
  7. K7 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-JA39 (YE) AND CIRCUIT 9-JA39 (BN) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND THE RCM 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Measure the resistance between first row driver side impact sensor C3209 pin 1, circuit 9-JA39 (BN), harness side and ground; and between pin 2, circuit 7-JA39 (YE), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K8.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 7-JA39 (YE) or circuit 9-JA39 (BN). GO to  K54.
  8. K8 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-JA39 (YE) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between RCM C310b pin 27, circuit 7-JA39 (YE), harness side and first row driver side impact sensor C3209 pin 2, circuit 7-JA39 (YE), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K9.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 7-JA39 (YE). GO to  K54.
  9. K9 CHECK CIRCUIT 9-JA39 (BN) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between RCM C310b pin 28, circuit 9-JA39 (BN), harness side and first row driver side impact sensor C3209 pin 1, circuit 9-JA39 (BN), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K10.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 9-JA39 (BN). GO to  K54.
  10. K10 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-JA39 (YE) FOR A SHORT TO CIRCUIT 9-JA39 (BN) BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between first row driver side impact sensor C3209 pin 2, circuit 7-JA39 (YE), harness side and pin 1, circuit 9-JA39 (BN), harness side.

    • Is the resistance greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K11.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 7-JA39 (YE) and circuit 9-JA39 (BN). GO to  K54.
  11. K11 CHECK THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Connect: RCM C310a.
    • Connect: RCM C310b.
    • Install a known good first row driver side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Were any faults flagged against the first row driver side impact sensor? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL the original first row driver side impact sensor. GO to  K52.
    • No  : Fault corrected. GO to  K54.
  12. K12 INSPECT THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR MOUNTING, AND MOUNTING SURFACE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Access the first row passenger side impact sensor. For additional information, refer to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FIRST ROW, B-PILLAR  in this article.
    • Inspect the first row passenger side impact sensor for:
      • loose electrical connector.
      • loose sensor mounting bolt.
    • Remove the first row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Visually inspect the first row passenger side impact sensor, alignment tabs, electrical connector, and mounting surface for damage, corrosion or dirt.
    • Was a significant amount of corrosion or dirt found, or was the passenger side impact sensor attached to the mounting surface incorrectly or was the sensor bolt not fully seated and tightened correctly? 
    • Yes  : CLEAN and TIGHTEN the bolt. REPAIR the mounting surface and electrical connections as necessary. REINSTALL the first row passenger side impact sensor. GO to  K54.
    • No  : GO to K13.
  13. K13 INSTALL THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the first row passenger side impact sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the first row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K14.
    • No  : Fault corrected. GO to  K54.
  14. K14 CHECK THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT 9-JA40 (BN/WH) FOR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Disconnect: First Row Passenger Side Impact Sensor C3211.
    • Measure the resistance between first row passenger side impact sensor C3211 pin 1, circuit 9-JA40 (BN/WH), harness side and first row passenger side impact sensor case ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 100 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K16.
    • No  : GO to  K15.
  15. K15 CLEAN FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE AND CARRY OUT ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Remove the first row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the first row passenger side impact sensor mounting bolts.
    • Install the first row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K16.
    • No  : Fault corrected. GO to  K54.
  16. K16 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-JA40 (YE/VT) AND CIRCUIT 9-JA40 (BN/WH) FOR A SHORT TO BATTERY BETWEEN THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND THE RCM 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Disconnect: RCM C310a.
    • Disconnect: RCM C310b.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Measure the voltage between first row passenger side impact sensor C3211 pin 2, circuit 7-JA40 (YE/VT), harness side and ground; and between pin 1, circuit 9-JA40 (BN/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K17.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 7-JA40 (YE/VT) or circuit 9-JA40 (BN/WH). GO to  K54.
  17. K17 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-JA40 (YE/VT) AND CIRCUIT 9-JA40 (BN/WH) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND THE RCM 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Measure the resistance between first row passenger side impact sensor C3211 pin 2, circuit 7-JA40 (YE/VT), harness side and ground; and between pin 1, circuit 9-JA40 (BN/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K18.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 7-JA40 (YE/VT) or circuit 9-JA40 (BN/WH). GO to  K54.
  18. K18 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-JA40 (YE/VT) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between RCM C310b pin 29, circuit 7-JA40 (YE/VT), harness side and first row passenger side impact sensor C3211 pin 2, circuit 7-JA40 (YE/VT), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K19.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 7-JA40 (YE/VT). GO to  K54.
  19. K19 CHECK CIRCUIT 9-JA40 (BN/WH) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between RCM C310b pin 30, circuit 9-JA40 (BN/WH), harness side and first row passenger side impact sensor C3211 pin 1, circuit 9-JA40 (BN/WH), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K20.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 9-JA40 (BN/WH). GO to  K54.
  20. K20 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-JA40 (YE/VT) FOR A SHORT TO CIRCUIT 9-JA40 (BN/WH) BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between first row passenger side impact sensor C3211 pin 2, circuit 7-JA40 (YE/VT), harness side pin 1, circuit 9-JA40 (BN/WH), harness side.

    • Is the resistance greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K21.
    • No  : REPAIR short between circuit 7-JA40 (YE/VT) and circuit 9-JA40 (BN/WH). GO to  K54.
  21. K21 CHECK THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Connect: RCM C310a.
    • Connect: RCM C310b.
    • Install a known good first row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Were any faults flagged against the first row passenger side impact sensor? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL the original first row passenger side impact sensor. GO to  K52.
    • No  : Fault corrected. GO to  K54.
  22. K22 INSPECT THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR MOUNTING, AND MOUNTING SURFACE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Access the second row side impact sensor. For additional information, refer to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - SECOND ROW, C-PILLAR  in this article.
    • Inspect the second row driver side impact sensor for:
      • a loose electrical connector.
      • a loose sensor mounting bolt.
      • a loose sensor mounting bracket.
    • Remove the second row driver side impact sensor.
    • Visually inspect the second row driver side impact sensor, electrical connector, mounting bracket and mounting surface for damage, corrosion or dirt.
    • Was a significant amount of corrosion or dirt found, or was the second row driver side impact sensor mounting bracket attached to the mounting surface incorrectly or was the second row driver side impact sensor bolt not fully seated and tightened correctly? 
    • Yes  : CLEAN and TIGHTEN the bolt. REPAIR the mounting surface as necessary. REINSTALL the second row driver side impact sensor. GO to  K54.
    • No  : GO to K23.
  23. K23 INSTALL THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the second row driver side impact sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the second row driver side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K24.
    • No  : Fault corrected. GO to  K54.
  24. K24 CHECK THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT 9-JA41 (BN) FOR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Disconnect: Second Row Driver Side Impact Sensor Connector.
    • Measure the resistance between second row driver side impact sensor connector pin 1, circuit 9-JA41 (BN), harness side and the second row driver side impact sensor case ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 100 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K26.
    • No  : GO to  K25.
  25. K25 CLEAN THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Remove the second row driver side impact sensor.
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the second row driver side impact sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the second row driver side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K26.
    • No  : Fault corrected. GO to  K54.
  26. K26 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-JA41 (YE) AND CIRCUIT 9-JA41 (BN) FOR A SHORT TO BATTERY BETWEEN THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND THE RCM 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Depower the system. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Disconnect: RCM C310a.
    • Disconnect: RCM C310b.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Measure the voltage between second row driver side impact sensor connector pin 2, circuit 7-JA41 (YE), harness side and ground; and between pin 1, circuit 9-JA41 (BN), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K27.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 7-JA41 (YE) or circuit 9-JA41 (BN). GO to  K54.
  27. K27 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-JA41 (YE) AND CIRCUIT 9-JA41 (BN) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND THE RCM 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Measure the resistance between second row driver side impact sensor connector pin 1, circuit 9-JA41 (BN), harness side and ground; and between pin 2, circuit 7-JA41 (YE), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K28.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 7-JA41 (YE) or circuit 9-JA41 (BN). GO to  K54.
  28. K28 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-JA41 (YE) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between RCM C310b pin 13, circuit 7-JA41 (YE), harness side and second row driver side impact sensor connector pin 2, circuit 7-JA41 (YE), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K29.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 7-JA41 (YE). GO to  K54.
  29. K29 CHECK CIRCUIT 9-JA41 (BN) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between RCM C310b pin 14, circuit 9-JA41 (BN), harness side and second row driver side impact sensor connector pin 1, circuit 9-JA41 (BN), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K30.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 9-JA41 (BN). GO to  K54.
  30. K30 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-JA41 (YE) FOR A SHORT TO CIRCUIT 9-JA41 (BN) BETWEEN THE RCM AND SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between second row driver side impact sensor connector pin 2, circuit 7-JA41 (YE), harness side and pin 1, circuit 9-JA41 (BN), harness side.

    • Is the resistance greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K31.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 7-JA41 (YE) or circuit 9-JA41 (BN). GO to  K54.
  31. K31 CHECK THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Connect: RCM C310a.
    • Connect: RCM C310b.
    • Install a known good second row driver side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Were any faults flagged against the second row driver side impact sensor? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL the original second row driver side impact sensor. GO to  K52.
    • No  : Fault corrected. GO to  K54.
  32. K32 INSPECT THE SECOND ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR MOUNTING, MOUNTING BRACKET AND MOUNTING SURFACE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Access the second row passenger side impact sensor. For additional information, refer to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - SECOND ROW, C-PILLAR  in this article.
    • Inspect the second row passenger side impact sensor for:
      • loose electrical connector.
      • loose sensor mounting bolt.
    • Remove the second row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Visually inspect the second row passenger side impact sensor, alignment tabs, electrical connector, and mounting surface for damage, corrosion or dirt.
    • Was a significant amount of corrosion or dirt found, or was the second row passenger side impact sensor mounting bracket attached to the mounting surface incorrectly or were the impact sensor bolts not fully seated and tightened correctly? 
    • Yes  : CLEAN, TIGHTEN the bolt or REPAIR the mounting surface as necessary. REINSTALL the second row passenger side impact sensor. GO to  K54.
    • No  : GO to  K33.
  33. K33 INSTALL THE SECOND ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the second row passenger side impact sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the second row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K34.
    • No  : Fault corrected. GO to  K54.
  34. K34 CHECK THE SECOND ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT 9-JA43 (BN/WH) FOR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Disconnect: Second Row Passenger Side Impact Sensor Connector.
    • Measure the resistance between second row passenger side impact sensor connector pin 1, circuit 9-JA43 (BN/WH), harness side and the second row passenger side impact sensor case ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 100 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K36.
    • No  : GO to  K35.
  35. K35 CLEAN THE SECOND ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Remove the second row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the second row passenger side impact sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the second row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K36.
    • No  : Fault corrected. GO to  K54.
  36. K36 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-JA43 (YE/VT) AND CIRCUIT 9-JA43 (BN/WH) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE SECOND ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND THE RCM

    • Yes  : GO to  K40.

    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Were any faults flagged against the second row passenger side impact sensor?
    • Yes  : INSTALL the original second row passenger side impact sensor.

      GO to  K52.

    • No  : Fault corrected. GO to  K54.
  42. K42 INSPECT THE FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR MOUNTING, MOUNTING BRACKET AND MOUNTING SURFACE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Access the front impact severity sensor. For additional information, REFER to FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR  in this article.
    • Inspect the front impact severity sensor for:
      • loose electrical connector.
      • loose sensor mounting bolt.
    • Remove the front impact severity sensor.
    • Visually inspect the front impact severity sensor, alignment tabs, electrical connector, and mounting surface for damage, corrosion or dirt.
    • Was a significant amount of corrosion or dirt found, or was the front impact severity sensor mounting bracket attached to the mounting surface incorrectly or were the front impact severity sensor bolts not fully seated and tightened correctly? 
    • Yes  : CLEAN, TIGHTEN bolt or REPAIR the mounting surface as necessary. REINSTALL the front impact severity sensor. GO to  K54.
    • No  : GO to  K43.
  43. K43 INSTALL THE FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the front impact severity sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the front impact severity sensor. Refer to FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR .
    • Repower the system. Do not prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K44.
    • No  : Fault corrected. GO to  K54.
  44. K44 CHECK THE FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT 9-JA49 (BN) FOR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Disconnect: Front Impact Severity Sensor C177.
    • Measure the resistance between front impact severity sensor C177 pin 1, circuit 9-JA49 (BN), harness side and front impact severity sensor case ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 100 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K46.
    • No  : GO to K45.
  45. K45 CLEAN THE FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Remove the front impact severity sensor. Refer to FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR .
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the front impact severity sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the front impact severity sensor. Refer to FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR .
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K46.
    • No  : Fault corrected. GO to  K54.
  46. K46 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-JA49 (YE) AND CIRCUIT 9-JA49 (BN) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Depower the system. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Disconnect: RCM C310a.
    • Disconnect: RCM C310b.
    • Repower the system. Do not prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Measure the voltage resistance between front impact severity sensor C177 pin 2, circuit 7-JA49 (YE), harness side and ground; and between front impact severity sensor C177 pin 1, circuit 9-JA49 (BN), harness side and ground.

    • Connect: RCM C310a.
    • Connect: RCM C310b.
    • Install a known good front impact severity sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Were any faults flagged against the front impact severity sensor? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL the original front impact severity sensor. GO to  K52.
    • No  : Fault corrected. GO to  K54.
  52. K52 CONFIRM THE RCM FAULT 
    NOTE: Make sure all restraint system Diagnostic tools, sensor electrical connectors, and the RCM electrical connector are connected before carrying out the on-demand self test. If not, erroneous DTCs will be recorded.
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect: Impact Sensors.
    • Connect: RCM C310a.
    • Connect: RCM C310b.
    • Repower the system. Do not prove out the system at this time. refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING  in this article.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    • Yes  : If a "?" was flagged by the Diagnostic tool, CARRY OUT the entire pinpoint test. INSTALL a new RCM. GO to  K54.
    • No  : CHECK for causes of the intermittent fault. ATTEMPT to recreate the hard fault by flexing the wire harness and cycling the ignition key frequently. REPAIR any intermittent concerns found. GO to  K54.
  53. K53 CHECK FOR AN INTERMITTENT FAULT 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    • Yes  : This is a hard fault. The fault condition is now present. The fault cannot be cleared until it is corrected and the DTC is no longer retrieved during the on-demand self test.

      If a flagged fault of "?" was recorded, multiple faults exist and the entire pinpoint test must be carried out.

      For first row driver side impact (F_D_SEN) sensor with a mounting/communications (COMM) fault, GO to  K2.

      For first row driver side impact sensor (F_D_SEN) with an internal fault (INT) fault, INSTALL a new first row driver side impact sensor. REFER to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FIRST ROW, B-PILLAR  in this article. GO to  K54.

      For first row passenger side impact sensor (F_P_SEN) with a mounting/communications (COMM) fault, GO to  K12.

      For first row passenger side impact sensor (FP SEN) with an internal fault (INT) fault, INSTALL a new first row passenger side impact sensor. REFER to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FIRST ROW, B-PILLAR  in this article. GO to  K54.

      For second row driver side impact sensor (D_2_SEN) with a mounting/communication (COMM) fault, GO to  K22.

      For second row driver side impact sensor (D_2_SEN) with an internal (INT) fault, INSTALL a new second row driver side impact sensor. REFER to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - SECOND ROW, C-PILLAR  in this article. GO to  K54.

      For second row passenger side impact sensor (P2 SEN) with a mounting /communications (COMM) fault, GO to  K32.

      For second row passenger side impact sensor (P_2_SEN) with an internal (INT) fault, INSTALL a new second row passenger side impact sensor. REFER to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - SECOND ROW, C-PILLAR  in this article. GO to  K54.

      For front impact severity sensor (FNT_SEN) with a mounting/communications (COMM) fault, GO to  K42.

      For front impact severity sensor (FNT_SEN) with an internal fault (INT) fault, INSTALL a new front impact severity sensor. REFER to FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR  in this article. GO to  K54.

    • No  : VISUALLY INSPECT the affected impact sensor, mounting brackets and mounting surface for damage, corrosion or dirt. INSPECT the wiring, terminals and connectors for damage, corrosion or dirt. CHECK for causes of the intermittent fault.

      ATTEMPT to recreate the hard fault by flexing the wire harness and cycling the ignition key frequently. ACTIVATE other systems in the same wire harness. REPAIR any intermittent concerns found. GO to  K54.

  54. K54 CHECK FOR ADDITIONAL DTCs 
    • Refer to the continuous DTCs recorded during Step  K1.
    • Were any continuous DTCs retrieved during Step   K1 ?
