Removal and Installation

NOTE:
Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.
- Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING in the General Procedures .
- Remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to FLOOR CONSOLE in this article.
- Remove the transmission range selector lever. For additional information, refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION EXTERNAL CONTROLS .
- Remove the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels.
- Remove the upper A-pillars.
- Remove the 2 screws and position the hood release handle aside.
- Disconnect the LH instrument panel harness electrical connectors.
- Remove the pinch bolt and separate the intermediate shaft from the steering column.
- To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
- Remove the screw and the RH floor heat duct.
- Loosen the bolt and disconnect the RH instrument panel bulkhead electrical connector.
- Disconnect the RH instrument panel harness electrical connectors.
- Remove the instrument panel defroster opening grille.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the 3 instrument panel cowl top screws.
- Remove the LH and RH instrument panel side finish panels.
- Remove the 2 instrument panel top bolts.
- To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
- Position the carpet aside, and remove the 4 instrument panel tunnel brace bolts.
- To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
- Remove the 2 LH instrument panel cowl side bolts and nut.
- To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
- Remove the RH instrument panel cowl side bolt and nut.
- To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
- Position the carpet aside and disconnect the LH junction box electrical connector.
- Remove the instrument panel.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
CAUTION:
Secure the steering wheel to prevent any rotation or damage to the air bag sliding contact.
NOTE:
Two technicians are required to carry out this step.
