Pinpoint Test I: The Defrost System Is Inoperative - Heated Wiper Park: Overview

  1. I1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE HEATED WIPER PARK RELAY 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Heated Wiper Park Relay C1014.
    • Measure the voltage between the heated wiper park relay c1014-86, circuit 30-HB8A (RD/OG), harness side and ground; and between the heated wiper park relay C1014-30, circuit 30-HB8 (RD/OG), harness side and ground.

    • Are both voltages greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to I2.
    • No  : GO to  I6.
  2. I2 CHECK THE SWITCHED GROUND FROM THE DATC MODULE 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Turn on the climate control.
    • NOTE: The Heated wiper park remains on for 90 seconds.
    • Press the auto and defrost buttons simultaneously to turn on the heated wiper park.
    • Measure the voltage between the heated wiper park relay c1014-85, circuit 91S-HB7 (BK/BU), harness side and the heated wiper park relay C1014-86, circuit 30-HB8A (RD/OG), harness side.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to I3.
    • No  : GO to  I7.
  3. I3 CHECK THE HEATED WIPER PARK RELAY OUTPUT 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect: Heated Wiper Park Relay C1014.
    • Disconnect: Heated Wiper Park C2272a.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Turn on the climate control.
    • NOTE: The Heated wiper park remains on for 90 seconds.
    • Press the auto and defrost buttons simultaneously to turn on the heated wiper park.
    • Measure the voltage between the heated wiper park C2272a-1, circuit 30S-HB42 (RD/YE), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to  I5.
    • No  : GO to I4.
  4. I4 CHECK CIRCUIT 30S-HB42 (RD/YE) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Heated Wiper Park Relay C1014.
    • Measure the resistance between the heated wiper park relay c1014-87, circuit 30S-HB42 (RD/YE), harness side and the heated wiper park C2272a-1, circuit 30S-HB42 (RD/YE), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new heated wiper park relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. I5 CHECK THE HEATED WIPER PARK GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Heated Wiper Park C2272b.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Turn on the climate control.
    • NOTE: The Heated wiper park remains on for 90 seconds.
    • Press the auto and defrost buttons simultaneously to turn on the heated wiper park.
    • Measure the voltage between the heated wiper park C2272a-1, circuit 30S-HB42 (RD/YE), harness side and the heated wiper park C2272b-1, circuit 31-HB42 (BK/YE), harness side.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new windshield. REFER to WINDSHIELD GLASS  in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 31-HB42 (BK/YE). TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. I6 CHECK THE UNDERHOOD AJB FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Underhood AJB Fuse 13 (30A).
    • Measure the voltage between the underhood AJB fuse 13 (30A) input cavity, and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR circuit 30-HB8 (RD/OG). TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR the underhood AJB input circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. I7 CHECK CIRCUIT 91S-HB7 (BN/RD) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: DATC Module C228b.
    • Measure the resistance between the heated wiper park relay c1014-85, circuit 91S-HB7 (BN/RD), harness side and the DATC module C228b-20, circuit 91S-HB7 (BN/RD), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new DATC module. REFER to CONTROL COMPONENTS . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
