Test P: Abs Indicator Inoperative Or Always On

CAUTION:
Use correct probe adapter(s) when testing at anti-lock brake module harness connector. Failure to do so may damage harness connector.
NOTE:
After making any repairs, clear DTCs and perform self-test.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If ABS warning indicator is always on, diagnose 4-Wheel Anti-lock Brake System (4WABS). See ANTI-LOCK - 4WAL - EXPEDITION & NAVIGATOR article in BRAKES.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect 4WABS control module harness connector C146. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If ABS warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If ABS indicator illuminates, go to step 4.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 20-pin harness connector C238. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C238 terminal No. 16 (Dark Green wire). See Figure. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to step 5. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair open in Dark Green wire between instrument cluster and 4WABS control module.
- Disconnect all 4WABS module harness connectors. Inspect harness connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Reconnect all 4WABS module harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace 4WABS module. See ANTI-LOCK - 4WAL - EXPEDITION & NAVIGATOR article in BRAKES. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and perform self-test.
- Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect harness connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and perform self-test.
