Symptom Chart

SYMPTOM CHART

Condition Possible Sources Action
  • Dust and water leaks
  • Body sealer missing
  • Openings in welds or body joints
  • Components not fully installed
  • Components missing
  • Components damaged
  • REMOVE the trim. CHECK for leaks and SEAL with appropriate sealer. ROAD TEST or WATER TEST for leaks. RECHECK the trim for leaks; USE a light under the vehicle with the trim removed. CHECK the interior of the body at the joints and weld lines.
  • Dust/water leaks at the floor pan and grommets
  • Missing or damaged plugs and/or grommets
  • CHECK the plugs for correct installation. INSTALL new plugs if necessary.
  • Door drain holes are collecting water
  • Holes clogged with mud, road tar or leaves
  • CLEAN the drain holes of dirt and foreign material. CHECK the drain holes regularly. TEST the system for normal operation.
  • Wind noise, air entering the vehicle through small holes in the body
  • Leaks at the door and window seals or the sheet metal joints in doors or door openings
  • SEAL the leaks with silicone gasket and sealant. ROAD TEST the vehicle to verify the concern is resolved.
  • Rattles
  • Loose objects in the wells, pillars and quarter panels
  • Misalignment (if tightening the bolts does not eliminate rattles)
  • Weather-stripping, anti-squeak material
  • CHECK the doors by carefully STRIKING the underside of the door with a rubber mallet. LISTEN for loose objects in the door. REPAIR as necessary. TIGHTEN the body bolts and screws to specification.
  • ADJUST the door for misalignment. REFER to BODY CLOSURES .
  • APPLY additional sealer. INSTALL in the correct location(s) to eliminate rattle(s).
