Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) - Inspection and Verification

The new instrument cluster must be reconfigured after installation. Refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION

- Verify the customer concern.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
Mechanical Electrical - Large metallic objects, a second anti-theft PATS key on the same key ring as the PATS key, or electronic devices on the key chain that can be used to purchase gasoline or similar items
- ignition lock cylinder
- PATS key
- Use of a non-PATS key
- More than one PATS key on the customer's key chain
- Central junction box (CJB) fuse(s):
- 7 (5A)
- 24 (5A)
- Instrument cluster
- PATS transceiver module
- Ignition switch
- Loose or corroded connection(s)
- If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
- If the diagnostic tool does not power up, refer to the diagnostic tool manual .
- Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
- ISO, SCP or UBP circuit fault; all electronic control units no response/not equipped, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
- No response/not equipped for instrument cluster, refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .
- No response/not equipped for powertrain control module (PCM), See INTRODUCTION - GASOLINE article .
- System passed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the instrument cluster.
