Pinpoint Test M: The STOPLAMPS Are Inoperative

  1. M1 CHECK THE BPP SWITCH INPUT 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Monitor the REM BPP switch status PID while pressing and releasing the brake pedal.
    • Does the PID indicate active with the brake pedal pressed and inactive with the brake pedal released? 
    • Yes  : GO to  M8.
    • No  : GO to  M2.
  2. M2 CHECK CIRCUIT 29-CF58 (OG/GN) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: BPP Switch C278.
    • Measure the voltage between BPP switch C278-1, circuit 29-CF58 (OG/GN), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to  M3.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. M3 CHECK THE BPP SWITCH 
    • Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between BPP switch C278-1, circuit 29-CF58 (OG/GN), harness side and BPP switch C278-2, circuit 29S-CF1 (OG/YE), harness side.

    • Do the stoplamps illuminate? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new BPP switch. REFER to STOPLAMP SWITCH  in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : If not equipped with IVD, GO to  M4.

      If equipped with IVD, GO to  M5.

  4. M4 CHECK THE BPP SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT TO THE REM 
    • Connect: BPP Switch C278.
    • Disconnect: REM C420b.
    • Measure the voltage between REM C420b-13, circuit 29S-DK30 (OG), harness side and ground while pressing the brake pedal.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to  M8.
    • No  : REPAIR the BPP input circuit between the REM and the BPP switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. M5 CHECK THE BPP SWITCH OUTPUT CIRCUIT TO THE IVD MODULE 
    • Disconnect: IVD Module C155.
    • Measure the voltage between IVD module C155-41, circuit 29S-CF1 (OG/YE), harness side and ground while pressing the brake pedal.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to  M6.
    • No  : REPAIR the BPP input circuit between the IVD module and the BPP switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. M6 CHECK THE IVD MODULE 
    • Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between IVD module C155-41, circuit 29S-CF1 (OG/YE), harness side and IVD module C155-44, circuit 29S-CF2 (OG/BU), harness side.

    • Press the brake pedal and observe the stoplamps.
    • Do the stoplamps illuminate? 
    • Yes  : GO to  M9.
    • No  : LEAVE the jumper wire connected. GO to  M7.
  7. M7 CHECK THE IVD MODULE OUTPUT CIRCUIT TO THE REM 
    • Disconnect: REM C420b.
    • Measure the voltage between REM C420b-13, circuit 29S-DK30 (OG), harness side and ground while pressing the brake pedal.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to  M8.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 29S-CF2 (OG/BU) or 29S-DK30 (OG). TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. M8 CHECK REM OPERATION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect all REM connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all REM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new REM. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. REPEAT the self-test.
  9. M9 CHECK IVD MODULE OPERATION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect the IVD module connector.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect the IVD module connector and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new IVD module. REFER to ANTI-LOCK CONTROL . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. REPEAT the self-test.
