Inspection and Verification

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect the following for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

    Mechanical Electrical
    • Audio unit
    • Navigation module
    • Antenna or antenna cable(s)
    • Antenna isolator module
    • Speaker(s)
    • Subwoofer amplifier
    • Center imaging amplifier
    • Audio amplifier
    • Radio ignition interference capacitors, radio frequency interference suppression bond, and radio receiver hood bonding strap
    • Central junction box (CJB) fuse(s):
      • 2 (5A)
      • 18 (20A)
      • 27 (10A)
    • Battery junction box (BJB) fuse(s):
      • 5 (10A)
      • 18 (20A) (CDX6)
      • 18 (30A)(Navigation)

  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. NOTE: The audio unit must be on and in radio tuner (AM/FM) mode to enter the diagnostic tool tester diagnostics.
  5. If the cause is not visually evident, proceed to the SPEAKER WALK-AROUND TEST  and AUDIO UNIT SELF-DIAGNOSTIC MODE (CDX6 AND DM100I) , or connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • check that the program card is correctly installed.
    • check the connections to the vehicle.
    • check the ignition position.
  6. If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool operating manual .
  7. Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
    • SCP circuit fault; all electronic control units no response/not equipped, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
    • System passed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), clear the continuous DTCs and carry out self-test diagnostics for the audio unit.
  8. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the AUDIO UNIT DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX  or the Navigation System Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index.
  9. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to SYMPTOM CHART .
