Removal and Installation

NOTE: Prior to removal of the instrument cluster, it is necessary to upload the instrument cluster configuration information to the diagnostic tool. This information needs to be downloaded into the new instrument cluster once installed. For additional information, refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION .
NOTE: If either the instrument cluster or the powertrain control module (PCM) is installed, updated, or configured, both modules require a parameter reset to allow both modules to recognize the passive anti-theft system (PATS) keys.

Failure to carry out the parameter reset to both the instrument cluster and the PCM may result in a no start condition.

  1. Tilt the steering column to the lowest position and telescope (extend) the steering column to the farthest position.
  2. Disconnect the battery. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  3. Remove the instrument panel cluster finish panel. For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE .
  4. Remove the instrument panel steering column cover and reinforcement. For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE .
  5. Remove the 2 screws and the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
  6. Loosen the 4 steering column nuts.
    • To install, tighten to 17 Nm (13 lb-ft).
  7. Remove the 4 instrument cluster screws.
      CAUTION: To avoid damage to the instrument cluster lens, place a protective cloth over the upper steering column before removing the instrument cluster.
    • Pull the instrument cluster out from the instrument panel and disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Download the module configuration information from the diagnostic tool into the new instrument cluster. For additional information, refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION .
  9. Following installation of the instrument cluster, carry out the Parameter Reset and Key Programming procedure in this article.

The parameter reset must also be carried out for the PCM. For additional PCM information, See INTRODUCTION - GASOLINE article .
