Pinpoint Test B: THE CONTROL ILLUMINATION IS INOPERATIVE

  1. B1 CHECK CIRCUIT 64S-LH5 (BU/RD) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Interior Auxiliary Junction Box C283a.
    • Turn the headlamps ON.
    • Place the dimmer switch in the maximum brightness position.
    • Measure the voltage between the interior auxiliary junction box C283a-9, circuit 64S-LH5 (BU/RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B2.
    • No  : GO to  B12.
  2. B2 CHECK THE INTERIOR AUXILIARY JUNCTION BOX FOR OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Turn the headlamps OFF.
    • Disconnect: Interior Auxiliary Junction Box C283b.
    • Disconnect: Interior Auxiliary Junction Box C283d.
    • Measure the resistance between the interior auxiliary junction box C283a-9, circuit 64S-LH5 (BU/RD), component side and the interior auxiliary junction box C283b-9, circuit 64S-LH4 (BU/RD), component side; and between the interior auxiliary junction box C283a-9, circuit 64S-LH5 (BU/RD), component side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the interior auxiliary junction box pins, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the interior auxiliary junction box and around? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B3.
    • No  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new interior auxiliary junction box. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. B3 CHECK CIRCUIT 64S-LH4 (BU/RD) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between the interior auxiliary junction box C283b-9, circuit 64S-LH4 (BU/RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B4.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. B4 CHECK THE INTERIOR AUXILIARY JUNCTION BOX FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between the interior auxiliary junction box C283a-13, circuit 64S-LH4 (BU/RD), component side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B5.
    • No  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new interior auxiliary junction box. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. B5 CHECK CIRCUIT 64S-LK9 (BU/RD) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the interior auxiliary junction box C283a-9, circuit 64S-LH5 (BU/RD), harness side and the interior auxiliary junction box C283a-5, circuit 64S-LK9 (BU/RD), harness side.

    • Turn the headlamps ON.
    • Place the dimmer switch in the maximum brightness position.
    • Monitor the cigar lighter, transmission selector lever, traction control (TC) switch, electronic park brake release switch, and parking aid switch.
    • Do the cigar lighter, transmission selector lever, TC switch, electronic park brake release switch, and parking aid switch illuminate? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B6.
    • No  : REPAIR the followings circuit(s): 64S-LK11 (BU), 64S-LK21 (BU/BK), 64S-LH3 (BU/WH), 64S-LH45 (BU/OG), 64S-CG15 (BU/WH), 64S-LH49 (BU/BK), or 64S-LK9 (BU/RD) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. B6 CHECK THE ILLUMINATION POWER SUPPLY FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Turn the headlamps OFF.
    • Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the interior auxiliary junction box C283a-9, circuit 64S-LH4 (BU/RD), harness side and the interior auxiliary junction box C283d-13, circuit 64S-LK1 (BU/RD), harness side.

    • Turn the headlamps ON.
    • Place the dimmer switch in the maximum brightness position.
    • Monitor the adjustable pedal switch, navigation audio unit, instrument cluster, message center, headlamp switch, instrument panel dimmer switch, and the steering wheel controls.
    • Do the adjustable pedal switch, navigation audio unit, instrument cluster, message center, headlamp switch, instrument panel dimmer switch, and the steering wheel controls illuminate? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B7.
    • No  : REPAIR the following circuit(s): 64S-LK1 (BU/RD), 64S-AL19 (BU/BK), 64S-LK34 (BU/BK), 64S-LK29 (BU/RD), 64S-GG25 (BU/OG), 64S-LH26 (BU/BK), 64S-LE10 (BU/YE), or 64-LK18 (BU/RD) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. B7 CHECK CIRCUIT 64S-AD2 (BU/RD) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Turn the headlamps OFF.
    • Disconnect: Central Junction Box (CJB) C270d.
    • Measure the resistance between the interior auxiliary junction box C283b-11, circuit 64S-AD2 (BU/RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B8.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. B8 CHECK THE LH REAR HEATED SEAT SWITCH AND LH REAR WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH ILLUMINATION 
    • Connect: CJB 270d.
    • Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the interior auxiliary junction box C283a-9, circuit 64S-LH5 (BU/RD), harness side and the interior auxiliary junction box C283b-10, circuit 64S-LH16 (BU/WH), harness side.

    • Turn the headlamps ON.
    • Place the dimmer switch in the maximum brightness position.
    • Monitor the LH rear heated seat switch and LH rear window control switch illumination.
    • Do the LH rear heated seat switch and the LH rear window control switch illumination operate? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B9.
    • No  : REPAIR the following circuit(s): 64S-LH16 (BU/WH), 64S-LH16A (BU/WH), or 64S-LH15 (BU) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
  9. B9 CHECK THE LH FRONT SWITCH ILLUMINATION 
    • Turn the headlamps OFF.
    • Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the interior auxiliary junction box C283a-9, circuit 64S-LH5 (BU/RD), harness side and the interior auxiliary junction box C283b-1, circuit 64S-LH1 (BU/RD), harness side.

    • Turn the headlamps ON.
    • Place the dimmer switch in the maximum brightness position.
    • Monitor the LH front door window control switch, LH front door lock control switch, memory set switch, and exterior mirror control switch illumination.
    • Do the LH front door window control switch, LH front door lock control switch, memory set switch, and exterior mirror control switch illumination operate? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B10.
    • No  : REPAIR the following circuit(s): 64S-LH1 (BU/RD), 64S-LH14 (BU), 64S-AH27 (BU), 64S-LH28 (BU), or 64S-LH50 (BU/YE) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
  10. B10 CHECK THE RH FRONT LOCK SWITCH AND RH FRONT WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH ILLUMINATION 
    • Turn the headlamps OFF.
    • Connect: CJB C270d.
    • Disconnect: RH Front Door C611.
    • Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the interior auxiliary junction box C283a-9, circuit 64S-LH5 (BU/RD), harness side and the interior auxiliary junction box C283b-11, circuit 64S-AD2 (BU/RD), harness side.

    • Turn the headlamps ON.
    • Place the dimmer switch in the maximum brightness position.
    • Monitor the passenger window switch and passenger door lock switch illumination.
    • Do the passenger window switch, and passenger door lock switch illumination operate? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR the following circuit(s): 64S-LH2 (BU/RD), 64S-LH31 (BU/RD), or 64S-LH42 (BU/RD) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : GO to  B11.
  11. B11 CHECK THE CENTRAL JUNCTION BOX (CJB) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Turn the headlamps OFF.
    • Disconnect: CJB C270d.
    • Measure the resistance between the CJB C270d-24, circuit 64S-AD2 (BU/RD), component side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR the following circuit(s): 64S-LH33 (BU/BK), 64S-LH33A (BU/BK), and/or 64S-LH32 (BU/RD) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new CJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
  12. B12 CHECK CIRCUIT 29S-DK22 (OG/YE) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Turn the headlamps OFF.
    • Disconnect: Front Electronic Module (FEM) C201f.
    • Measure the voltage between the FEM C201f-1, circuit 29S-DK22 (OG/YE), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B13.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  13. B13 CHECK CIRCUIT 64S-LH5 (BU/RD) FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between the interior auxiliary junction box C283a-9, circuit 64S-LH5 (BU/RD), harness side and the FEM C201f-11, circuit 64S-LH5 (BU/RD), harness side; and between the interior auxiliary junction box C283a-9, circuit 64S-LH5 (BU/RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the interior auxiliary junction box and the FEM, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the interior auxiliary junction box and ground? 
    • Yes  : GO to  B14.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  14. B14 CHECK FOR CORRECT FEM OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the FEM connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the FEM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new FEM. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation. If the control illumination is still inoperative, GO to  B15.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  15. B15 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
