Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Refrigerant compressor oil (mineral oil) should be used to lubricate R-134a refrigerant system O-ring seals only and should not be added to the R-134a refrigerant system as an A/C compressor lubricant. PAG refrigerant compressor oil only should be used as an A/C compressor lubricant.
NOTE: Installation of a new receiver drier is not required when repairing the air conditioning system except when there is physical evidence of contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the receiver drier.
NOTE: Lubricate the coolant hoses with plain water only if needed.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Recover the refrigerant. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  3. Drain the engine coolant. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  4. Remove the fresh air inlet duct. For additional information, refer to AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
  5. Remove the RH air deflector shield.
  6. Release the clamps and disconnect the 3 heater core hoses.
  7. Release the lower heater hose clamp and disconnect the lower heater hose.
  8. Remove the front heater tube bracket bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  9. Remove the rear heater tube bracket bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  10. Remove the compressor manifold and tube inlet fitting nut.
    • Discard the O-ring seals.
    • To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
  11. Remove the receiver drier manifold and tube fitting nut.
    • Discard the O-ring seals.
    • To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
  12. Remove the front TXV manifold and tube bracket bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  13. Remove the rear TXV manifold and tube bracket bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  14. Remove the 3 wire harness bracket bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  15. Remove the TXV fitting bolt.
    • Discard the O-ring seals.
    • To install, tighten to 21 Nm (15 lb-ft).
  16. Remove the TXV manifold and tube assembly.
  17. Lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean PAG oil. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  18. Evacuate, leak test and charge the refrigerant system. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
