Test K: Illuminated Entry Inoperative With Remote

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln Blackwood and 2002 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, right of steering column. Monitor PID IGN_GEM while turning ignition switch from LOCK to RUN position. If PID agrees with ignition switch positions, go to next step. If PID does not agree with ignition switch positions, repair open in appropriate ignition circuit. See POWER DISTRIBUTION in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
  2. Retrieve and record continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), clear DTC and perform Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1610 is retrieved, go to step  5. If DTC B1342 is retrieved, replace GEM and perform self-test. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.
  3. Press UNLOCK button on remote transmitter. Driver's side door should unlock and courtesy lights should illuminate. Press LOCK button on remote transmitter within 20 seconds of pressing UNLOCK button. Driver's side door should lock and courtesy lights should turn off. If courtesy lights do not operate as specified and driver's side door does, go to next step. If courtesy lights and driver's side door operate as specified, check with customer to clarify problem and retest system. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table. If courtesy lights operate as specified and driver's side door does not lock, diagnose door lock problem. See appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS article.
  4. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID ILLE_SW while turning Central Security Module (CSM) module active command INT LMPS on then off. PID ILLE_SW should indicate on when on and off when off. If PID indicates as specified, go to next step. If PID does not indicate as specified, replace GEM and perform self-test. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.
  5. Using NGS tester active command, turn INT LMPS on. Measure voltage between ground and Central Security Module (CSM) module by backprobing 22-pin harness connector C274b terminal No. 10 (Brown/Light Green wire). See Fig 1. Voltage should be 1.5 volts or less. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, replace CSM module and retest system. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.
  6. Using NGS tester, measure pulse width between ground and CSM module by backprobing harness connector C274b terminal No. 10 (Brown/Light Green wire) while pressing UNLOCK then LOCK button on remote transmitter. See Fig 1. Pulse width should be 190-210 ms when UNLOCK button is pressed and 290-310 ms when LOCK button is pressed. If pulse width is as specified, go to next step. If pulse width is not as specified, replace CSM module and retest system. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.
  7. Ensure ignition is in LOCK position. Disconnect GEM harness connector C201b. GEM is located on back of central junction box. Measure resistance in Brown/Light Green wire between CSM module harness connector C274b terminal No. 10 and GEM harness connector C201b terminal No. 9. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace GEM and retest system. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown/Light Green wire between CSM module and GEM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
