Test I: Courtesy Lights Inoperative With One Door Open

Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, right of steering column. Using NGS tester, monitor PID P_DR_SW while opening and closing right front door. Monitor PID D_DR_SW while opening and closing left front door. Monitor PID RRDR_SW while opening and closing right rear door. Monitor PID LRDR_SW while opening and closing left rear door. Monitor PID PTC_Ajar SW while opening and closing power tonneau cover. If PID does not agree with door positions, go to next step. If PID agrees with door positions, replace GEM and perform self-test. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.
Disconnect inoperative door ajar switch harness connector. Using a jumper wire, connect terminals of door ajar switch harness connector. If courtesy light does not illuminate go to next step. If courtesy light illuminates, replace defective door ajar switch.
Measure resistance between ground and Black wire of inoperative door ajar switch harness connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire between door ajar switch and ground. Ground point is located behind right kick panel.
Disconnect GEM harness connector C201a. GEM is located on back side of central junction box. Measure resistance between inoperative door ajar switch harness connector and appropriate terminal at GEM harness connector C201a. See Figure. See DOOR SWITCH TERMINAL & WIRE COLOR IDENTIFICATION table. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace GEM and test system operation. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire.
