Removal and Installation

CAUTION:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Remove the oil pan. For additional information, refer to ENGINE LUBRICATION COMPONENTS - EXPLODED VIEW, OIL PAN, OIL PUMP, OIL PUMP SCREEN AND PICKUP TUBE and Oil Pan in this article .
- Remove the bolts and the oil pump screen and pickup tube.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Inspect the O-ring seal and install a new one if necessary.
- Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine oil.
CAUTION:
Only use hand tools to remove the oil pump screen and pickup tube.
