Description And Operation: Engine: Crankshaft
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The crankshaft is supported on the bottom of the cylinder block by 5 steel-backed, over-plated, aluminum crankshaft main bearings.
To provide smooth engine operation, the piston crank pins are positioned to provide a power impulse every 90 degrees of crankshaft rotation. The spacing provides smooth and quiet operation.
