Valve Cover - LH: Installation

  1. Clean the valve cover, cylinder head and front cover sealing surfaces with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Inspect and install a new gasket as necessary.
  2. NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.
    NOTE: The valve cover must be installed and the bolts and stud bolts tightened within 4 minutes of sealant application.

  3. Apply an 8-mm (0.32-in) bead of silicone gasket sealant to the cylinder head half-round surface and to the front cover-to-cylinder head joint face.
  4. Position the LH valve cover and install the 12 stud bolts.
    • Tighten in the sequence shown to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  5. Position the 2 engine appearance cover brackets and install the 4 nuts.
    • Tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
  6. Install a new CHT sensor.
    • Tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft).
  7. Position the wiring harness conduit and install the 2 nuts.
    • Tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
  8. Attach the 4 wiring retainers to the valve cover and the valve cover stud bolts.
  9. Connect the VCT solenoid electrical connector.
  10. Position the hoses and attach the hose retainer to the engine appearance cover bracket.
  11. Connect the CHT sensor electrical connector.
  12. Connect the PCV tube to the PCV valve.
  13. Install the LH ignition coil-on-plugs. For additional information, refer to ENGINE IGNITION - 3.0L (4V) .
  14. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
