Removal and Installation

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Hold the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position using a suitable holding device.

  3. Remove the intake manifold tuning valves. For additional information, refer to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS .
  4. Remove the fresh air inlet duct housing. For additional information, refer to AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
  5. Install the special tools.

  6. Remove the LH engine mount upper nut.
    • To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
  7. CAUTION: Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate while the steering column intermediate shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring can result. If there is evidence that the wheel has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered, For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
  8. Remove the steering column intermediate shaft pinch bolt and detach the intermediate shaft from the steering gear.
  9. Remove the LH engine mount lower nut.
    • To install, tighten to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).
  10. Remove the 8 bolts and the RH and LH suspension crossmember I-braces.
    • To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
  11. Remove the 2 lower control arm rearward through-bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 175 Nm (129 lb-ft).
  12. Loosen the 4 center crossmember bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 104 Nm (77 lb-ft).
  13. Using the special tools, raise the engine and remove the LH engine mount.
  14. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
