Disassembly and Assembly

- Remove the tappet and shim.
- Using the special tool, compress the valve spring and remove the retainer keys.
- Remove the valve spring retainer and valve spring.
- For component tests of the valve spring retainer, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Remove the valve.
- For component tests of the valve, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Remove the valve stem seal.
- Repeat the procedure until all of the valves are removed.
- To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure
- For component tests of the cylinder head, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
CAUTION:
Do not use any means of marking the shims other than a permanent-type marker. Any scratches or paint on the shims may result in incorrect lash adjustment and severe engine damage.
CAUTION:
The tappets and shims must be installed in their original position to make sure of correct valve lash settings.
NOTE:
Lubricate the valve stem and the valve stem seal with clean engine oil prior to installation.
