Disassembly and Assembly

    CAUTION: Do not use any means of marking the shims other than a permanent-type marker. Any scratches or paint on the shims may result in incorrect lash adjustment and severe engine damage.
    CAUTION: The tappets and shims must be installed in their original position to make sure of correct valve lash settings.
  1. Remove the tappet and shim.
  2. Using the special tool, compress the valve spring and remove the retainer keys.

  3. Remove the valve spring retainer and valve spring.
  4. Remove the valve.
  5. Remove the valve stem seal.
  6. Repeat the procedure until all of the valves are removed.
  7. NOTE: Lubricate the valve stem and the valve stem seal with clean engine oil prior to installation.
  8. To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure
  9. For component tests of the cylinder head, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
